Embodied Backbends Workshop
Saturday 16th November
10am - 12:30pm
Do you want to play around with some backbends?
Do you find pinching in cobra or other backbends?
Do you want to ensure your core is supporting you in your backbends?
Do you want to find length in your backbends?
Are you hyper mobile and want to ensure stability in your backbends?
…Join Sarah for a fun workshop on all things backbends from an embodied perspective
This workshop will be fun, safe and a great opportunity to explore backbend poses and gain knowledge you can bring to your weekly class.
During the workshop you will…
Warm up your body through an embodied yoga practise
Explore some backbends (e.g. dancer, bridge, maybe crab)
Break down the poses
Discover what props might be useful
Discover how to engage your core to support your back
Discover how to find length in the back
Discover how to avoid pinching in your lower back
Counter balance all the backbend exploration with forward bends, side bends and twists
End with some more restorative poses to unwind and release your back
Love backbends? But want to explore Backbends safely, with strength and stability
What does it mean to be from an embodied perspective?
It means that we won’t be pushing our bodies beyond its limits or aiming for a picture perfect backbend and injuring ourselves.
Instead we will have great fun exploring the poses but we will sense how it feels in our bodies and adjust based on what is going on in our body that day.
Also, we will make sure we prepare our muscles properly by opening the workshop with an embodied yoga practise.
Backbends require our whole body, power coming from your legs can help you release and explore your backbend more. Tightness across your shoulders can create tension in your backbends and dumping into the lower back can put strain on your back. When we take an embodied approach we look at all of this, we look at activating your leg in dancer, using your core for stability and lengthening your back rather than pinching. We take a whole body approach, which is where the power truly lies.
About Sarah
Sarah is a qualified yoga and meditation teacher who takes an embodied approach to her teaching. Sarah’s warm energy and light hearted approach allows for a fun class. Sarah reaps the rewards of her own yoga practise in her daily life as a primary school teacher where she often finds herself pulled in ten directions. She herself can easily get into backbends and so has spent a lot of time discovering in her own body how to find stability in her backbends and now she loves to share that with her students.
