The Second Chakra Explored
This week we are looking at the second of these sacred spaces or energy spaces within the body.
As always I invite you to ignore and not believe a word that I say. Enquire for yourself see if it feels true or if it resonates with you. Take what you like and leave you don't
The second chakra is located in the lower pelvis area its organs are include the sexual organs but also the intestine and bladder, the lower vertebrae particularly the sacred sacral bone, also the pelvis, so basically the whole hip area.
The colour associated with the second chakra is a beautiful orange
The energy around it is Creation & Relationships - Creation and Birth - Birth of relationships, both with yourself, and between you and another. Also creation of dreams, birth of ideas, projects and of course birth of family and children.
The first chakra, is more about inheriting who you are from your parents, at your birth. This chakra maps to about the age of 7, when your own identity begins to come in and you begin the possibility of separation of identity form your parents. You extend your relationship to your environment and other people.
For example
Have I control over my relationships
What is my dream
Can I make enough money
Can I support myself with my roll in the world
What authority do I have
As we work with this chakra we are generating or enhancing or sense of self, our personal identity and our boundaries. (The 3rd chakra brings this a step further where we look to enhance our personal power.) This chakra is about our relation with ourselves and our external relationship with other people and our environment.
In ‘The Anatomy of the Spirit’ , Caroline Myss argues that the Primal fear at this chakra is ‘Loss of Control’, or being controlled by another. While the Primal Strength is the ability and stamina to survive financially and physically on one’s own.
Sacred truth is to Honour one another… The physical energy of the second chakra all symbolises that relationships are essentially spiritual messengers. They bring into our lives - and we into their - revelations about our own strengths and weaknesses.
What dose that mean? It means every interaction with another is a learning opportunity for us. We are social beings, and who we around ourselves with, and how we interact with them creates the world we live in and our world view. Remember the old saying ‘ show me your friends and I will show you yourself’.
Are you supported by your relationships? Do you support others in your relationships? What can we learn about ourselves? For example, my husband comes home and there house is in a mess and he looks funny at me - What happens next? … there are so many options …
Maybe I feel guilty about ‘the state’ of the house and react angrily
Maybe I feel guilty about ‘the state’ of the house and tell him how I feel
Maybe I ask him how he is
Maybe I could notice I feel frustrated by his ‘look’, and wonder about what is going on. I am annoyed that ‘I am responsible for keeping the house’, I choose to look deeper - I am annoyed that I am taken for granted and not seen or ‘expected to do the house work’. I choose to look deeper - I am still running an ‘old program’ that I inherited from my mum about the ‘Womans roll’ and am still ‘reacting to it’ rather then free from it. Secondly I am equating value to salary - another old programme - So my learning is that these 2 believe that I inherited unconsciously are still driving me (and can resell in me fighting with my husband) - these are first chakra beliefs - this is where I can work to clear and let go antiquated beliefs that no longer serve me.
(Those who have read the 4 Agreements may see how I have snook them in here.)
The sensation for the second chakra may be feeling stuck in relationships, or projects. It can be like trying to swim up steam to achieve your dream, but getting caught in the reeds.
So while I may need to go back to first chakra poses, you may be ready for some second chakra poses. (In truth, we continuously cycle through them all, like pealing layers of an onion).
So here they are:
Second Chakra Focused Poses
Hero Pose with a block
Frog Pose
Hip Circles
Low Lunge
Half Monkey God Pose
Warrior II
Reverse Warrior Pose
Goddess Pose
Wide Legged Forward Fold
Seated Forward Bend
Recline Bound Angle Pose
