How can a few minutes of morning yoga benefit you?
Reduce caffeine intake - Many people use caffeine in the morning to wake up their bodies. Yoga will slowly wake up your body and mind. Why not ditch the caffeine and spend the time you would spend making coffee doing yoga. Doing yoga as soon as you wake up will help focus your mind and give you a great start to your day.
Increases flexibility - if you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk or standing up your muscles will tighten and stiffen. Stiff muscles can result in pain or loss of mobility. Doing yoga in the morning will gently stretch and lengthen your muscles, reducing and tightness and stiffness in your muscles.
Increase energy - yoga will increase your energy and give you a jump start to your day. The sun salutation will get your blood flowing around your body. Doing yoga in the morning can help to make your mind more awake and alert.
2. About the sun salutation and its benefits
The sun salutation is a series of poses combined to form a sequence. The poses flow nicely together. The sequence is at least 2,500 years old. The sun salutation has many benefits such as:
Regulates breath - you inhale and exhale with the movement of the poses regulating your breathing
Lengthens and tones muscles all over your body
3. A few tips and tricks
Take a minute to ground yourself allowing all your weight through your feet into the ground.
You can do a variation on the poses to lessen the stretch. The important thing is that you never go into pain, if you feel pain come out of the pose, each of our bodies are different and are also different each day so listen to your body and don’t go past its limits.
To lessen the stretch:
Forward bend - let yourself hang, when it comes to needing your hands on the floor bend your knees until your hands are planted on the floor.
Downward dog - Slightly raise your heels and bend your knees to lessen the stretch
Take some time for yourself and experience the benefits.
Further your yoga practise with a weekly yoga class or a workshop.
Make everyday be an adventure. It can be a challenge, but it is so worth it. Namaste.
